Tammy Besherse

Tammy Besherse works at Appleseed to improve immigrants rights in the areas of public benefits, housing, domestic violence, and health care, through policy efforts and legal trainings. She also focuses on Family and Elder Law.

Ms. Besherse is a member of the South Carolina Bar Convention Committee and the United States Attorney‘s Human Trafficking Task Force. She is also a member of the South Carolina Children‘s Justice Act Task Force. Community groups she participates in include the South Carolina Hispanic Leadership Council and the Coalition for New South Carolinians.

Ms. Besherse co-authored "Ten Biggest Myths About Immigrants and the Law in South Carolina", which was published in The South Carolina Lawyer November/December 2005. She also co- authored "South Carolina Court Interpreters and the Rules of Professional Conduct". This article was published in the July 2007 edition of The South Carolina Lawyer.

On April 17, 2008 she was awarded the Excellence in Legal Services Award for the Southeast Region by the Mexican American Legal Education and Defense Fund.
