Mission Statement
SC Appleseed fights for low income South Carolinians to overcome social, economic and legal injustice.
Welcome
For more than 20 years, South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center has improved the quality of life for all South Carolinians. We serve a wide range of needs for the low-income community through legal work, economic development, social legislation and educational work.
Safe housing, reliable transportation, food, education, and other necessities that should be a right rather than a privilege, are our goals. We seek equality through our laws and the assurance that our legal system is looking out for those most in need. These are the promises that a civil society makes to all its citizens. It is the pursuit of these rights that drives South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center forward.
Information and Education
SC Appleseed Legal Justice Center wants to share information on legal topics which effect those we serve--the disadvantaged. We have authored a number of pamphlets, bulletins, brochures, papers and manuals on topics which include housing, education, immigration, consumer affairs, public benefits, health and family, with many translated into Spanish. All printed materials are online for consumer and professional use. We have policy papers for the professional on SC laws and state policies concerning our clientele. Most of these materials can be downloaded.
In addition, we offer continuing educational training for the professional, who seeks to update their knowledge on SC law in areas we advocate. Go to our Training page to see what classes might interest you.
Focus on Kids
Focus on Kids, a project of South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center, brings together organizations and individuals to advocate for policies and programs that ensure success for all South Carolina's children.
Advocate of the Year, SC Appleseed Legal Justice Center honored Congressman James E. Clyburn as the 2011 Advocate of the Year on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at 701 Whaley with a reception from 5:30p.m.-7:00p.m.
