Focus on Kids

Focus on Kids, a project of the South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center, is bringing together organizations and individuals to work collectively on issues impacting children in our state. Focus on Kids is dedicated to improving the lives of South Carolina's children by advocating for policies and programs that will ensure their future success. At the present time, Focus on Kids has more than 65 partner organizations and numerous individual child advocates. We have completed an in-depth report, The Children's Budget Behind the Numbers, which reveals the devastating effects that recent budget cuts have had on state agencies' abilities to deliver services and programs to children in our state. Each member of the General Assembly received a copy of this report. Every legislator also received a letter from Focus on Kids in late December requesting that budget reductions not be made in the Children's Health Insurance Program and the Medicaid program, and that children's healthcare be the number one priority in their budget deliberations. This letter was signed by all of our partners and advocates.
