Amanda Alder

Amanda Adler is an attorney working on the Special Education Project at the South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center. The Project was created to help serve low-income special-education students who are not receiving the educational services to which they are entitled. Her work includes screening cases and referring them to advocates or lawyers, as well as providing outreach and education. A new goal of the Student Advocacy Project is identifying the systemic barriers facing South Carolina's special-education students and developing policy solutions.

Amanda began her legal career working on education policy at SC Appleseed with support from the Equal Justice Works Fellowship and the Nelson Mullins Riley and Scarborough Centennial Fellowship. She has written training materials and presented on education law and policy for a wide range of audiences. Her special interests include issues involving school finance, teacher recruitment and retention, students struggling with homelessness, and English Language Learners. Amanda is a former educator who has taught in public schools in South Carolina and Georgia. She has a law degree from the University of South Carolina and a B.A. from Emory University.
